Welcome to JSU! We’re glad that you’ve decided to stop
in and check us out. Jewish life in the Bi-Co is really an amazing
thing. We promise that your visit will have been worth your while.
As you probably know already, JSU serves as the home for Jewish
life on both of our schools’ campuses. From Friday night Shabbat
services to Sukkah building and Megillah readings, we’re here
to make it easy—and fun—for you to be Jewish while in
college. If you were concerned about having to fly home for the
High Holy Days, stop worrying. We’ve got it covered. Regardless
of your denomination or degree of observance, you’ll feel
comfortable here in JSU.
But wait! JSU is more than just a religious organization. We are
responsible for a slew of social events designed to make Jewish
life transcend the weekly Shabbat service or the occasional (or
not-so-occasional) Jewish holiday. JSU holds, among other things,
frequent movie nights, weekly text studies, and several social outings
each year. Our headline events—like the annual Latke-Hamentashen
debate—can attract tons of both Jewish and non-Jewish Students.
Finally, we are in midst of upgrading and redesigning our very own
JSU lounge, which will serve as a social center for Jewish life
at Haverford and Bryn Mawr.
We hope that you’ll take the time, if you haven’t already,
to browse around our website. We think you’ll see that we
really are a great organization. But if you are concerned about
anything, remember that Jewish life in the Bi-Co, wonderful as it
is already, is always changing to accommodate everybody. If you
decide to attend either Haverford or Bryn Mawr, you can, and should,
help us to shape what we do here. That way, your Jewish experience
in college can be whatever you want it to be. We look forward to
having you on board.
If you have any additional questions, or you just want to chat,
please feel free to email either Claire
Reyner or Rebecca Zeldin.
Otherwise, just shoot us an e-mail at jsu@go.haverford.edu.
We’d love to hear from you.
Good luck with everything!
