V. Confidentiality, Consensus, Checking Biases, and Trial Procedure

Bill and Laura talked about the importance of confidentiality during procedures, and specifically that under no circumstances whatsoever should real names ever be used, even in Council discussions (other than trial deliberations). We also talked about how to handle suitemates knowing when we're on trials, as well as boyfriends/girlfriends.

Next we talked about consensus. How the process works, what the goals are, and how we strive for unity, not necessarily unanimity. We talked about standing outside and blocking, and under what circumstances they should be used. We also mentioned the necessity of checking biases, and of being aware of our own personal histories with regard to any issues that Council may deal with. For the new members, we also briefly explained trial procedures.

Due to recent changes in the Sexual Assault Policy (talk to Ben with any questions), we talked about the new procedure, the Dean's panel. This panel consists of three deans and is designed for use in case the involved parties would rather not involve their peers. For a full explanation of the new policy, check out p. 75 out of the Student's Guide.
